Disclaimers

Being clear about what we do, what we don't do, and what we can and cannot promise.

Draft, needs legal review. This page reflects how the Foundation actually operates, but it has not been reviewed by a legal professional and should be before publishing.

We fund therapy, we do not provide it

The Aimee Howard Foundation is a funder, not a healthcare provider. We do not employ therapists, we do not deliver counselling or clinical treatment, and nothing on this website is medical advice, a diagnosis, or a substitute for professional care.

We are not an emergency service

We cannot respond to emergencies. Applications and messages sent through this website are reviewed by a small team during ordinary working hours, and are not monitored around the clock. If you need urgent help, please use the free crisis lines on our urgent support page.

Applying does not guarantee funding

Support is discretionary and depends on the funds available at the time. Meeting the published eligibility criteria means an application will be considered; it does not entitle any applicant to funding. We may approve part of a request, place an application on hold, or decline it, and we may stop or change support already in place if our circumstances change.

We aim to be fair and consistent, but we cannot commit to a fixed decision timeframe or to funding a set number of sessions.

Your therapist is your therapist, not ours

Where we connect an applicant with a therapist, or pay for sessions with a therapist they already see, the professional relationship is between the client and that therapist. The Foundation is not a party to it.

  • The therapist is independently responsible for their clinical judgement, the care they provide, and their professional and ethical obligations.
  • The Foundation does not supervise, direct or review clinical treatment, and does not have access to session content or clinical notes.
  • Concerns about the care received should be raised with the therapist and, where appropriate, with their regulatory body. We are glad to hear about problems too, so that we can review whether to keep working with a practitioner.

What our vetting does and does not cover

Before matching anyone, we check that a partner therapist is registered and in good standing with their professional body, and we ask them to confirm their qualifications, experience and approach to risk.

That is a screening step, not an endorsement. We do not assess clinical competence, we cannot guarantee any particular outcome from therapy, and inclusion in our network is not a recommendation that a given therapist is the right fit for a given person.

Information on this website

We try to keep this site accurate and up to date, but we make no warranty that it is complete or error free. Any crisis and helpline numbers we list are operated by third parties; we check them periodically but cannot guarantee their availability. Links to other websites are provided for convenience and do not imply endorsement.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Foundation, its trustees, staff and volunteers are not liable for any loss or harm arising from use of this website, from a decision to fund or not to fund an application, or from the acts or omissions of an independent therapist or third-party service. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
